Lyrics

My doctor said
Take it easy
So I took my shoes off
Felt pretty easy to me

Shoes off
Heart on
Shoes off
Heart on

Sixty years in shoes that pinched
Walking careful, inch by inch
Heels for church and boots for work
Loafers for the office smirk
Every step was where I should
Never once felt how the ground felt good

Then one day out in the grass
I let the old rules finally pass
Toes in the cool and the soft and the sun
Felt like my whole life had just begun

Shoes off, heart on
Heart on
Feel the ground, it feels you back
Every step a brand new track
I left the worry by the door
I'm dancing like I never danced before
Shoes off, heart on
Heart on

Kick 'em off, kick 'em off
Let it go, let it go
Earth below and sky above, hey
Barefoot in the world we love

Here come the neighbors from down the lane
Dressed like a party in the pouring rain
Silver hair and the brightest gown
Nobody wearing a single frown
Pumpkins glowing like the setting sun
We kick our shoes off, every one

Grass on our ankles, dust on our toes
Laughing louder than anybody knows
We don't need a floor that shines
We got the earth and it's doing fine

Shoes off, heart on
Heart on
Feel the ground, it feels you back
Every step a brand new track
I left the worry by the door
I'm dancing like I never danced before
Shoes off, heart on
Heart on

Kick 'em off, kick 'em off
Let it go, let it go
Earth below and sky above, hey
Barefoot in the world we love

This old ground
Held my babies' first steps
It held my mama's garden
It held me when I fell
So tonight
I'm gonna give it something back
I'm gonna give it a dance

Shoes off, heart on

Shoes off, hearts on
Hearts on
Feel the ground, it feels us back
Every step a brand new track
We left the worry by the door
We're dancing like we never danced before
Shoes off, hearts on
Hearts on

Kick 'em off, kick 'em off
Let it go, let it go
Earth below, sky above

My doctor called to check on me
I told him I'm taking it easy
He doesn't need to know about the dancing
