Lyrics

I found the dress.
I found the shoes.
Then I thought—
what am I waiting for?
Red dress hanging by the door
Good shoes sleeping on the floor
Morning light across the room
I said, today will have to do
Silver hair
A little red
Put that old doubt back to bed
Turn the lock
Step outside
Something woke up in my stride
No invitation
No big parade
Just one good morning
And a choice I made
I saved it for today
I saved it for today
No perfect time
No special sign
I saved it for today
Bring the good things into daylight
Let the old heart have its say
I stopped saving life for later
I saved it for today
Today, today
Bring it out today
Step, step
Turn and sway
We’re not saving joy away
Woman in a coat of wine
Caught my eye and fell in line
Man in blue with one fine hat
Tipped it once
I tipped mine back
One small step
Then two, then three
Sidewalk found a melody
Nobody asked what we had planned
We just moved because we can
No celebration
No reason why
Just good shoes moving
Under open sky
I saved it for today
I saved it for today
No perfect time
No special sign
I saved it for today
Bring the good things into daylight
Let the old heart have its say
I stopped saving life for later
I saved it for today
I saved it for today
Today, today
Bring it out today
I saved it for today
Today, today
Bring it out today
Clap, clap
Turn and sway
We’re not saving joy away
Good glass in the cabinet
Candles in the drawer
All those little beautiful things
What was I saving them for?
Joy gets better moving
Love gets better shared
Life was never asking me
To leave the good things there
So bring them out
Bring them out
Let them see the sun
If today is what we’ve got
Today can be the one
We saved it for today
We saved it for today
No perfect time
No special sign
We made this our day
Bring the good things into daylight
Bring the good things into daylight
Let every heart have its say
We stopped saving life for later
We saved it for today
Today, today
We chose today
Hands up
Feet awake
Today, today
Don’t hide the joy away
Turns out
the day wasn’t waiting for a reason.
It was waiting for us.
